Back To The Future – Vintage Style!

Brand new for 2019…or is it?! I’ve invested in some awesome retro lighting and backdrop curtains as today’s clients demand the vintage look, without compromising the quality of the light show and sound system. One of the most innovative lighting fixtures of the past twelve months is the Vintage Blaze retro halogen ‘searchlight-style’ lamp. A huge circular silver bowl with a warm, old fashioned glow…but with the 21st Century twist of added LED lighting to create an endless choice of colour combinations. These fixtures are hugely popular on TV shows; just watch any live music performance and you’re bound to

Is it August already?!

Erm…..hello! Has it really been eight months since my last post? Wow. So what’s happened in 2017 so far then? I’ve certainly travelled far and wide in the UK once again, with both discos and quiz nights taking me to the Midlands, Hampshire and Gloucestershire. In July, there was a glut of Central London events at which I played in some very swish five-star hotels and banqueting suites. And it’s been a year so far of repeat bookings from large corporate clients who really enjoyed my Quiz Shows in 2016 and immediately returned for more! Over the next few months,

Your Wedding In 2017 – Mind The Gap!

Happy New Year! ….ok, so I’m a few days late but the sentiment’s still there! For all those recently engaged couples, this is probably your biggest year. Planning, interviewing, reviewing and ultimately booking your wedding day suppliers seems quite daunting at the outset, but trust me you will definitely know when you find the right people. Instinct is way more valuable than it’s given credit for. That little feeling nagging away at the back of your mind that something just isn’t right about a person or their services needs to be given serious consideration. This all stems from two incidents

2016 – A reflection

Wow…what a year that was. Sadly, it will always be remembered as the year we lost some truly legendary heroes, especially in the music world. Playing classic tracks by Bowie and Prince following their untimely deaths, the amount of love and respect for them from my audiences was humbling. If anything good can come from losing them so early, it’s that millions of new fans are now seeking out their albums and back catalogues and the world is appreciating them all over again. From a business point of view, 2016 took a wildly different path to the one I expected.

Everyone’s a tech expert nowadays….or are they?

So…you’re planning your wedding day, everything has to be perfect for the biggest event in your lives…and you get to the booking stage for your entertainment…You decide to go with a DJ instead of a band and you begin asking questions of all the DJs you’ve contacted. So far, nothing unusual. Except one thing…are you asking them the right questions?! This year, I have lost count of the number of brides-to-be questioning me in detail about the equipment and the technical specification of the kit that I use. “How many cabinets and how many watts is your sound system?” and “Do

Here we go again!

Happy New Year to you all! The first Monday of 2016, so I’m firmly rooted to my office chair, fielding an inbox full of enquiries and booking confirmations. It seems like ages since I’ve blogged here on the site but I guess that means I’ve been too busy….and that’s a good thing! The QuizHire side of the business has been booming in 2015, and I’m taking it forward in a big way this year. A complete re-vamp of the website is coming up before the Spring, plus many more options are being offered to the growing base of corporate clients for

“What does a Wedding DJ do for his money?” : A Day In The Life Of……

For those people who have never booked a DJ before and wonder why the fee is more than £200, here is just a small snapshot in the life of a full-time professional wedding DJ in Essex (i.e. me!) Friday morning (day before the wedding) – Crawl out of bed around 9am, straight into the office and spark up the PC even before my first cuppa. Trawl through the junk emails offering me all sorts of wonderful remedies, diets and million-dollar payouts, then begin answering some queries and offering quotes for prospective weddings in Essex and Kent. Pull up all the details

DJ Mixing versus Music Knowledge…a very 21st Century debate

I belong to a number of online social media DJ groups, and a few associations too….and one of the more recent and most common threads is whether a DJ is considered worthy of the title if they unable to mix two (or more) tunes together in perfect beat synchronicity. For the uninitiated, beat mixing has been around for years. Soul and funk DJs from the late 60’s/early 70’s were already experimenting with bringing one tune into another in perfect tempo timing, mainly to keep the dancers on the floor. A sudden change in tempo (especially slower) can result in dancers heading

80’s Night – The Revival!

I’m always looking for a new angle, a unique party theme or simply anything that will keep me above the ever-increasing flood of wannabe DJs now washing round the UK. And guess what I’ve found? That’s right…something completely unoriginal but sadly neglected over the past few years….the 80’s Party! I’m currently putting together a unique package for the ultimate 80’s experience, which will include genuine record decks (remember those?!), real 7″ singles, traffic light effects (admittedly I now have LED ones, and not the finger-scalding bulb versions) and even a Night-Fever style dancefloor!             Having

Happy New Year!

2015 is finally in full swing, and if you’re planning your Big Wedding Day this year, then why not give me a call?! I’m currently spending up to four hours per day in the office, speaking to potential clients from all over the UK, helping them to plan their perfect wedding reception disco entertainment. With the advent of so much hands-on cheap technology now flooding the market, there has been a significant increase in the number of ‘mobile DJs’ advertising their services on the internet….it’s so easy nowadays to walk into Maplins in your local high street and walk out with
