2023 and all that…

Another New Year begins… Is this your year to finally tie the knot? Or maybe you’re planning that huge birthday party you’ve always wanted? Well, I’m your man for all your music needs on such special occasions! I’ve got the experience, the skills and the equipment! Call me today! There’s no resolutions here for the coming 12 months, but lots of action points in the diary…including a brand new look for the website! I’ve been pretty naughty (according to my web administrator) over the past few years, neglecting the site when it needed new images, videos and written content. But

Your Names Up In Lights! – Personalise your Wedding dance floor!

The UK wedding market is still booming in 2022, despite the economic downturn and the (seemingly) endless government gaffes on the news every night… More and more wedding clients are looking for extras to complement the DJ services I provide. Lots of these ideas originate from the US, where they place great importance on the aesthetics of the function suite, using mood lighting and personalised projections. I have always resisted going too far with supplying some of the more extreme ideas, such as pyrotechnics and dry ice, as my focus still remains firmly on the fantastic sound quality, lighting and

‘Never Too Late To Live Happily Ever After’

Having just come off the back of a very busy weekend, I thought I’d share some of the weekend’s joy with you… My job as a Wedding DJ and Host means that, 90% of the time, my clients are aged between 25 & 35 years old. This weekend just past (Saturday & Sunday), both couples were a more ‘mature’ age…but it actually made the events even more enjoyable in many ways.  Firstly, for two of them, it was the second time around taking the plunge so they knew what to expect of the big day, making them far more relaxed

Striving for the perfect beat!

Last week, after many months of selling off surplus equipment and reassessing the huge collection of DJ tools I have amassed, I purchased a PA system that I seriously consider as the very best in its class. I won’t bore anyone with the technical details…basically there’s been a fashion over the last 10/15 years to own an ‘array’ system….a bass speaker with a tall slim column attached, filled with little speakers to project sound everywhere (rather than focusing on the dancefloor area). Bose effectively developed the idea, but others have taken the idea further. After a lot of side-by-side comparisons,

Prom Night!

It’s School Prom season once again! Last night it was fantastic to finally get back to hosting a riotous School Prom party, following the years of lockdown, etc. At Channels barn in Chelmsford, the sixth-formers were celebrating the end of another chapter in their lives, and possibly the last of their schooling for those that weren’t heading to university in September. So it was quite an emotional night for some, although I’m sure the free flowing alcohol helped! I began the evening with some new dance remixes and soon the cool kids were demanding drum n bass….but just standing there

Wedding Tipis are like buses…I wait thirty-five years, then…

…Two come along at once!  In the past 14 days, I have hosted and played at a number of lovely wedding receptions, but for the first time in my whole career, two of them took place in a couple of magnificent tipis! My first experience was an ‘all-nighter’ wedding party…alongside a classical trio, a pianist and a superb function band, my set didn’t actually get underway until 1am! The setting was nothing short of breathtaking though…a combination of three huge tipis in the grounds of a private country estate, each with their own central firepit, and a fabulous chill out

Moonlight, not daylight!

When you’ve been doing a job for as long as I have, you can’t help but pick up valuable tips along the way from your peers. I’ve learned so much from fellow DJs; music mixing tips, mic presentation techniques and health & safety measures to name a few, but I also try to impart knowledge of my own to colleagues along the way. My latest concern in the mobile DJ world is the overuse of lighting… Since the advent of LED lighting, mobile disco lightshows have become cheaper, lighter (not meant as a pun!) and 1000% more energy efficient. They

We Got Soul! 10 Top Anthems For Your Dancefloor

If there’s one thing guaranteed to put smiles on faces and rhythm in feet, it’s Soul music!  I make no secret of the fact that soul music, in all its’ forms, is my passion. I grew up listening to classic Motown such as Stevie Wonder, The Commodores, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations. Curiosity then took me onto Stax & Atlantic stuff, spending long hours with James Brown, Otis Redding and Aretha on constant rotation. Delve deeper and you discover Northern Soul, Psychedelic Funk and US Garage. Then of course there’s disco! And my true love of this music continues today,

The Common Misconceptions About Mobile DJs!

I have been a professional DJ for a long time…over thirty years, in fact.  During the mid-2000s, I was taking so many bookings that I made the bold decision to quit my steady day job and go headfirst into the world of mobile DJing full time. And I’m still here. Despite Covid and despite competition for business increasing tenfold from amateurs with a laptop, my business is still alive and kicking! In all that time, I have heard many comical (and sometimes insulting!) observations about mobile DJs…and I’d like to share a few here, to hopefully give you a laugh

Come Hell Or High Water – The Show Goes On in Storm Eunice!

“Bit of a stiff breeze today, eh?” We all knew it was coming…weather warnings on the TV and radio for most of the preceding week…but like typical Brits, we totally underestimated the power of Storm Eunice, and boy oh boy we got a shocker of a weather front! On Friday morning, I was informed by the venue (Hintlesham Hall in Suffolk, a beautiful manor house hotel) that power was out for the whole hotel, but a generator had already been moved in to keep both the kitchens and the entertainment going seamlessly from noon until the party finished at 1.00am.
