Ha! Ha! ‘Biggidy Bong’……..a phrase used by former Radio One Breakfast Show DJs Mark and Lard to describe the then craze of UK Garage or ‘2-Step’ dance music at the end of the Nineties.
And like all worthy fashions, it makes its’ proud return to the current music scene.
I’ve been noticing quite a few requests for ‘old school garage’ over the last year, whether at a birthday party, wedding reception or corporate function….and since Christmas almost every gig has had at least 20 minutes of 2-step classics filling the dancefloor. Tunes such as ‘Flowers’ by Sweet Female Attitude, ‘Sambucca’ by The Wideboys and ‘Imagine’ by Shola Ama are now the most requested dance records!
One consolation….at least it means the popularity of Gangnam Style is subsiding!
As if to prove it’s current resurgence, we’re holding our third ‘Step On It’ night at Orsett Hall on Saturday 6th April. Playing a very special old school garage and club classics set alongside me will be legendary Dreem Teem DJ Timmi Magic. Tickets are still available from the hotel, priced at £8.
Hope to see you all there!
