Festive Cheer and Happy New Year

With Christmas Day upon us again and the old year drawing to a close, it’s time to thank all the wonderful people we’ve worked for and worked alongside during 2012. It’s been a very busy year contrary to our early expectations, and we have seen many wedding receptions throughout the last twelve months, particularly at Orsett Hall. I’d like to thank all the wonderful staff for their help and I certainly look forward to many more appearances as Orsett Hall Resident DJ in the coming months. Our appearance has changed too…..I finally caved in and bought the wonderfully classy starcloth DJ

Ahhhhhhhh, feet up at last!

I write this latest addition to my blog at 2.45am, after a long night of Christmas party fun and helping out my fellow resident DJs at Orsett Hall…and I’ve finally made it home and flopped in the armchair. This was only the first of my four-night stints in December…..I’ve got a few more to come as we edge ever closer to the 25th…..so with coffee in one hand and iPad in the other, it’s time to catch up with the stuff I’ve missed since Thursday. One of the advantages of DJing at weekends is that I get to miss all

Christmas at the Orsett Hall begins…

Time to catch up on a little blogging.... It seems to creep up slowly every year, and then suddenly.....POW! December is upon me, and the Christmas parties begin in earnest at the Orsett Hall. This year is busier than any of our three resident DJs expected, with parties going right up to the 23rd December. Looking forward to many festive fun-filled nights!! Last week saw the very triumphant return of Friday Night Live at the Orsett Hall, with Columbia once again headlining a fabulous night. Over 150 people crammed into the Whitmore Suite to see one of the best coverRead more

Christmas Parties and New Year’s Eve

Well, it’s nearly upon us again……you’d think by now I’d be used to it, but December every year hits me like a train! An almost full diary of corporate parties and socialising with friends & family, by the time January arrives I’m ready to drop! We still have some availability for the Christmas Party period, a couple of our DJs have held back dates to cater for late party bookings, so don’t hesitate to give us a call if you’re left in the lurch by a non-professional two-bob pub DJ! We still have New Year’s Eve availability too due to

Missing Links! – Our highly recommended business friends and partners

Since our revamp of the website, we lost our ‘Links’ page along the way, which contained details of some of our very good friends within the wedding and entertainment business….so here is a quick guide to the suppliers you simply must book for your big day or corporate event: Westside Studio Photography Our favourite photographers, Paul and his team guarantee a first class service. Not only superb images, Westside Studio also offer some wonderful bespoke albums (individually created, not pre-determined like other suppliers) and they also specialise in school prom photography too. With their own studios, they’re  always available for family portraits

Venue Uplighting – an extra special service

We get asked quite often by prospective brides and grooms if we can light up their function room or wedding marquee with either their chosen colour(s) of the day, or with constant changing colours. Of course we can! Some venues are quite dull  with just plain cream walls and no architectural features to speak of, so with the addition of coloured lighting washing up the walls around the room, it really adds a warmth and eye-catching spectacle for the assembled guests. It also enables us to turn off all of the house lights and create a better dancefloor focus, whilst

Wedding Reception Specialist DJ

Rounded off a very busy weekend with the ever-popular Orsett Hall Wedding Fayre last Sunday. We got to speak to lots of prospective brides and grooms about their big day, and had a chance to show off our new look (as below) starcloth booth and optional matching backdrop.

Left out in the cold…….

As I haul my carcass out of my nice warm bed this morning, I immediately recall last night’s wedding reception and the ‘endurance’ of playing from 7.30pm til midnight…..in the cold open air. Now I guess I’ve been rather spoiled over the last 15 years or so, playing at some really nice hotels and plush marquees in landscaped surroundings, but last night was a little different. The wedding reception disco was held in a fairly large marquee in the grounds of a local cricket club. Upon first impressions (apart from the slalom from van-to-stage-area) the marquee seemed fine. However it

24hr Party People!

I’m not really sure what to make of the new marriage licencing laws, which basically means that you can now be officially married at any time of the day or night. It would certainly be quite novel to start a wedding reception at, say, 4am in the morning following the ceremony! As a resident DJ at Orsett Hall hotel, I wonder whether we’ll now get some quirky start & finish times…..although I seriously doubt too many people will stray from the more acceptable daylight hours. On the subject of differing hours, I’ve noticed a lot of wedding couples lately have

Have equipment, will travel……

Last Saturday night saw my furthest ever trip to a UK wedding destination, when I hauled my carcass down to Plymouth in Devon. A mere 270 miles away, I set out at 9am to make sure I got there in very good time. After a fairly pleasant yet uneventful drive, I arrived at 2pm and settled into my lovely quaint B&B and readied myself for the evening’s ‘performance’! The groom was a DJ himself, and I was left stunned when walking into the venue marquee by the sheer volume of lighting he had installed for the party! Over 25 DJ
