Compare & Contrast – Which DJ equipment set-up would you be most happy with at your event/wedding?

Below are two photographs of DJ equipment, both set up at Orsett Hall hotel for a function. Both using just 4 light effects and both using sub-bass speakers for extra rumble.                             The set-up on the bottom is our minimum standard kit for the Orsett Hall’s Resident DJ service to brides & grooms. We pride ourselves on the tidyness of the cabling and the overall fresh appearance of the equipment. The set-up on the top is the standard kit of the hotel’s oldest resident DJ. Note the lack of attention to detail, such

“What happens when you’re too ill to work?”

….a question that we get asked quite often, understandably when it could mean a wedding day ruined. Well, last weekend it happened to me. A serious knee injury meant that I was unable to even stand up, let alone operate a mobile disco business. I tried to think of all the options that would have enabled me to attend the two events on Friday and Saturday, but ultimately even getting into the van as a passenger was impossible without great pain. We have a network of seven top mobile DJs, and always at least one remains available each weekend for

Friday Night Live III – The best yet! In aid of Macmillan Cancer Care

Without a shadow of a doubt, our charity gig alongside the wonderful Columbia coverband on Good Friday was simply stunning, and the best one yet! From a technical point of view I was responsible for not only the DJing side of things, but computer-controlled stage lighting and the awesome sound system. As if this wasn’t cool enough, I was joined by my video DJ colleague, Jon Holder, who supplied the brilliant backdrop video screen with live camera feed and bespoke graphics! We received some very generous donations from local businesses and individuals for our raffle, and we raised over £100 alone on

National Association of DJs

Last night I was invited to join a friend in attending a meeting of the NADJ in West London. Now, this is something I’m very new to……I have never been particularly keen on these events before, mainly because they seem to be a battle of inflated egos and DJ kit comparisons….but I admit to being pleasantly surprised. The guest speakers were both intelligent and articulate in their delivery, and I walked away feeling I had actually learned something and not just listened to boastful stories. The previous evening I’d attended the SEDA (South East DJ Association) meeting, and whilst it

Orsett Hall Hotel – Nineteen years and going strong!

Orsett Hall Hotel…….a luxurious four-star hotel, completely rebuilt in 2009 after a devastating fire…..and my residential DJ home since 1994. Here’s a review of their superb function suites: The Whitmore Suite A large room, this can hold up to 120 diners and well over 200 evening guests. Of all the Orsett Hall function suites, this one has the cosiest feel to it, with its dark and stylish curtains and very contemporary light fittings. From a DJ perspective, it’s both very easy to access and a joy to play in. And with all the function rooms at Orsett Hall, there is no restrictive

Biggidy Bong is back!

Ha! Ha! ‘Biggidy Bong’……..a phrase used by former Radio One Breakfast Show DJs Mark and Lard to describe the then craze of UK Garage or ‘2-Step’ dance music at the end of the Nineties. And like all worthy fashions, it makes its’ proud return to the current music scene. I’ve been noticing quite a few requests for ‘old school garage’ over the last year, whether at a birthday party, wedding reception or corporate function….and since Christmas almost every gig has had at least 20 minutes of 2-step classics filling the dancefloor. Tunes such as ‘Flowers’ by Sweet Female Attitude, ‘Sambucca’

The Age Of Video!

Since Christmas, we’ve been working in close company with one of the most enthusiastic music video editors and remixers in the county, Jonathan Holder. He’s done a superb job on our time-lapse wedding rig set up video, and also some extensive shots (coming soon!) of our uplighting capabilities for your function. Having Jon onboard means that we can now provide a VDJ service for your wedding or party. From just a simple 32″ monitor mounted overhead the DJ booth to two massive rear projection screens either side of the DJ kit, it’s an impressive addition to our already-stunning array of

Corporate Quiz Fun!

It’s always a pleasure to add another post to my blog after a particularly good event, and last night’s corporate quiz evening was exactly that……..a very entertaining night in the company of some great people. The quiz took place in Soho’s Secret Tea Rooms, a very quaint and intimate venue above a pub in London’s theatreland. A novel experience for me, conducting a quiz almost entirely by candlelight! The staff were amazingly helpful, the food was top notch and the quiz was a total success, made more exciting by a tie-break for the winners. The customer, Cerillion Technologies, even had a

2013 – Taking bookings now!

Every January and February, we reckon that we probably answer around 200 enquiries for weddings and events, as prospective brides and grooms begin their huge task of organising the big day. The influx has already begun! Been sitting at the computer for well over two hours now, replying to all the soon-to-be happy couples. 2013 has definitely seen a down turn in advanced bookings though, a lot of interested parties are leaving their arrangements until the last minute, hoping for a better deal on price. As fully professional DJs, we don’t choose to compete on price like the part-time guys
