Summer 2013 – Late notice dates available

2013 has been unlike any other year for us so far……..in March and April we were inundated with bookings of all sorts, yet the traditional wedding season months of August and September are fairly quiet in comparison. Stated below are a few major dates that are still available if you have need for a late-notice DJ. Saturday 10th August Friday 23rd August Saturday 24th August Friday 6th September Saturday 21st September Call Ian direct on 07798 753639 to discuss your requirements.

Crondon Park Golf Club – Venue Revue

We like to comment on all the venues we play at, from a DJ perspective only, and hopefully this helps our fellow DJs and prospective clients alike to decide whether this is the venue to hold their celebration. On Saturday, we paid another visit to Crondon Park Golf Club, for a wedding reception. For those who haven’t been there, Crondon Park is a tastefully-converted barn with beautiful grounds immediately outside and, obviously, a golf course. The venue is separate from the clubhouse so there’s no cross-over/interaction with any of the golfers on the day. Access for equipment is a little long-winded

We’ve been busy! Our new Ultimate Wedding Package

One way to spend a boring Monday night is to put together our brand new Ultimate Wedding Package set-up…and grab a few photos and videos for the website! The Ultimate Wedding Package is based around a pair of superb custom-built (by us!) column plinths, lit from within by an LED colour-changing unit, with a slowly rotating mirrorball white light effect on top. This is complemented by our starcloth DJ booth and also our starcloth backdrop. We have a large number of different light effects we can add to the rear overhead bar, the video below shows just two subtle effects in use. The

Resident DJs beware!

It’s been brought to my attention again the question of resident DJs, and more specifically, hotels and venues insisting on their usage. This subject rears its ugly head every few years, usually reported to us by brides and grooms who wish to use our services but find their venue being quite bullish on utilising their in-house DJ, and putting as many ‘obstacles’ in the way as they can to ensure they get their own way. Tricks such as insisting on a pre-midday DJ set up, PAT & PLI certificated proof (any mobile DJ worthy of his profession will have these

Benton Hall Golf Club – a new venue for us!

On Saturday, I was booked to play in an Essex golf club that I’d never visited before….and that is a rare thing indeed! After 25 years of covering virtually every venue in Essex, here was somewhere new for me…Benton Hall Golf Club in Witham. The room in which the birthday party was being held was quite large, but the DJ area was restricted so we had to squeeze our speaker system in to fit nice and snug. Benton Hall itself is a very nice club, with a large bar area and separate dining room for the buffet, etc. It also looks

ScottieMix – Back in the studio!

It seems ages since I’ve mixed up some tunes in the studio, so it felt good to spend a few hours this morning putting together some bespoke mixes for other DJs and even for my own set-list! I completed a couple of modern pop/dance 20 minute mixes, which can provide essential back-up on the night of a function if anything untoward happens. I remember many years ago being incredibly grateful for a long mix track when I was suddenly struck down with food poisoning mid-gig! I recall spending over half an hour in the gents, eventually emerging looking decidedly worse

Compare & Contrast – Which DJ equipment set-up would you be most happy with at your event/wedding?

Below are two photographs of DJ equipment, both set up at Orsett Hall hotel for a function. Both using just 4 light effects and both using sub-bass speakers for extra rumble.                             The set-up on the bottom is our minimum standard kit for the Orsett Hall’s Resident DJ service to brides & grooms. We pride ourselves on the tidyness of the cabling and the overall fresh appearance of the equipment. The set-up on the top is the standard kit of the hotel’s oldest resident DJ. Note the lack of attention to detail, such

“What happens when you’re too ill to work?”

….a question that we get asked quite often, understandably when it could mean a wedding day ruined. Well, last weekend it happened to me. A serious knee injury meant that I was unable to even stand up, let alone operate a mobile disco business. I tried to think of all the options that would have enabled me to attend the two events on Friday and Saturday, but ultimately even getting into the van as a passenger was impossible without great pain. We have a network of seven top mobile DJs, and always at least one remains available each weekend for

Friday Night Live III – The best yet! In aid of Macmillan Cancer Care

Without a shadow of a doubt, our charity gig alongside the wonderful Columbia coverband on Good Friday was simply stunning, and the best one yet! From a technical point of view I was responsible for not only the DJing side of things, but computer-controlled stage lighting and the awesome sound system. As if this wasn’t cool enough, I was joined by my video DJ colleague, Jon Holder, who supplied the brilliant backdrop video screen with live camera feed and bespoke graphics! We received some very generous donations from local businesses and individuals for our raffle, and we raised over £100 alone on

National Association of DJs

Last night I was invited to join a friend in attending a meeting of the NADJ in West London. Now, this is something I’m very new to……I have never been particularly keen on these events before, mainly because they seem to be a battle of inflated egos and DJ kit comparisons….but I admit to being pleasantly surprised. The guest speakers were both intelligent and articulate in their delivery, and I walked away feeling I had actually learned something and not just listened to boastful stories. The previous evening I’d attended the SEDA (South East DJ Association) meeting, and whilst it
