DJi - FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Laid out below are the most popular enquiries DJi receives when discussing a prospective booking. It’s fairly comprehensive, but of course if you have anything else you need to know, then please call 07798 753639 or contact Ian Scott via e-mail.
Q. You’ve been recommended to us by a friend, but we’d love to see you work before we book. Is this possible?
As most of Ian’s work is for private customers (i.e. weddings), it is a little difficult to pin down a date where he is playing publicly. However, there are occasions where this is possible, and you would be best to contact Ian by phone to arrange a date.
Q. When is the best time to book my DJi entertainment package?
Always confirm your venue first, then go ahead and call Ian as soon as you can. As a resident DJ for the Orsett Hall hotel, dates can be swiftly booked, as much as two years in advance for the peak wedding months.
Q. How much will it cost?
With many factors such as travel, working times and equipment requirements, an accurate price cannot be quoted here on the web as every function is different. Ian’s prices are guaranteed to be competitive with the relatively few DJs out there who can match his top quality set-up and experience.
As a friend once told us, “You buy a TV or a dishwasher on price, not your wedding DJ!”
Q. Can we determine the music you will play for the evening? Do you accept playlists or requests?
Of course requests are welcomed; your music tastes and requirements will be discussed well before your party. You are free to provide playlists too, but Ian does suggest that four pages of A4 in small font are a bit too much! Consider this…in a basic four-hour DJ set (the party average), the number of tracks played rarely exceeds 80.
Q. How far do you travel?
Ian is based in Thurrock, Essex. Anywhere within a 25-mile range does not incur extra travel expenses (except Congestion charge!), but if you are prepared to pay for travel (and overnight accommodation in extreme cases) Ian will travel anywhere within the UK.
Q. Can you set up in advance of the party, even before we sit down for the meal, etc?
No problem there, but it may incur an extra charge depending on the location and time scale. Please call Ian to discuss your situation.
Q. The venue has insisted that the DJ must have a valid PAT Certificate and Public Liability insurance. Can you provide those?
Yes; all of the equipment is tested and certified as required, and Ian has a Public Liability cover of up to £20m. Copies of both documents are available upon request.
Q. Will I receive a contract to confirm my booking?
Yes, along with DJi’s terms & conditions and a receipt for any deposit paid in advance.
Q. How will the DJ be dressed?
Always accordingly for the occasion…for weddings Ian will wear a shirt and trousers, a tuxedo for black tie affairs, etc.
Q. We are worried about the noise level. We’ve recently seen another DJ and he would not turn the volume down, it was far too loud for the room.
Ian owns three different sound systems, and when your venue is decided he will determine which one is the most appropriate for the function room. This is quite a unique service for a mobile DJ, as most have just one sound system available.
Q. What lighting and pyrotechnics do you provide? Will there be strobes and smoke?
The DJi lighting rig is a superb mixture of professional nightclub effects and mood lighting. There are hundreds of combinations available from the fourteen top notch units available.
There are no strobe lights in the line-up, although some of the more active effects flash from time to time. A smoke machine can be used provided the venue has been previously advised. It certainly adds to the ambience of the dance floor and is recommended.
Q. What do you require from us on the night?
All that is required is an area of at least 4m (12’) x 2m (6’) to set up the equipment and a standard 13 amp plug socket. A safe parking space for the vehicle and if possible a supply of mineral water throughout the evening would be appreciated.
Q. Finally, what happens if you are ill or unable to work on the day of our party? Is there a contingency plan?
Ian has many personal friends who are professional DJs, and in eighteen years has only called on them three times as emergency cover. DJi guarantees to provide you with a replacement DJ should anything untoward happen on your party date.
